Product Description
The King George IV 1825 Shilling coin was a piece of currency issued during the reign of King George IV in the United Kingdom. The Shilling was a silver coin with a face value of 12 pence, equivalent to 1/20th of a pound sterling, and was part of the British pre-decimal currency system.
On the obverse side of the coin, you would find the portrait of King George IV. The specific design of the 1825 Shilling featured the bust of the King facing left. King George IV is depicted wearing a laurel wreath around his head, and the inscription "GEORGIUS IIII D.G. BRITANNIAR. REX F.D." can be seen around the portrait, which translates to "George IV, by the Grace of God, King of the Britains, Defender of the Faith."
The reverse side of the coin features a crowned shield design within a Garter. The shield is divided into four quarters, representing the constituent countries of the United Kingdom: the three lions of England, the lion rampant of Scotland, the harp of Ireland, and the three lions of Hanover. Above the shield is a small crown, and below it, the denomination "ONE SHILLING" is inscribed.
The King George IV 1825 Shilling coin has a diameter of approximately 23.6 millimeters and weighs about 5.65 grams. It is composed of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. The edge of the coin is typically milled with small vertical lines.
