Collection: WW2 British General Service Gas Mask
The British General Service Respirator was a gas mask used by the British Armed Forces during World War II. It was designed to protect soldiers from chemical and biological agents that could be used in warfare.
The respirator was made up of several parts, including a facepiece, a filter canister, and a haversack for storage. The facepiece was made of black rubber and covered the entire face, with a transparent eyepiece to allow for visibility. It had an adjustable strap that went around the back of the head to keep it secure.
The filter canister was made of metal and contained activated charcoal to absorb gases and particles. The canister was attached to the facepiece by a hose, which allowed the wearer to breathe filtered air.
The haversack was used to store and transport the respirator when it was not being worn. The bag was made of canvas and had a shoulder strap for easy carrying. It was also designed to hold accessories.
The British General Service Respirator was issued to all members of the British Armed Forces, including soldiers, sailors, and airmen
