The General Service Medal was a British campaign medal awarded to members of the British Armed Forces for service in various military operations and peacekeeping missions.
The clasp "Malaya" was awarded to members of the British Army who served in the Malayan Emergency, a conflict that took place in Malaya between 1948 and 1960. The conflict was fought between Commonwealth armed forces and communist insurgents and was characterized by guerrilla warfare and jungle fighting.
