Product Description

The  1899 Queen Victoria One Penny is a historical British coin that was minted during the reign of Queen Victoria. It is also known as the "Veiled Head" penny because it features an effigy of Queen Victoria wearing a widow's veil. This design was introduced on British coinage after the death of Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, in 1861.

The coin has a diameter of 30.8mm and is made of bronze. On the obverse (front) side of the penny, the veiled head of Queen Victoria is depicted facing left. She wears a crown with the text "VICTORIA DEI GRA BRITT REGINA FID DEF IND IMP.    "Victoria by the Grace of God Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith, Empress of India."

The reverse (back) side of the coin displays a seated Britannia, the personification of Britain, facing right. She is depicted holding a trident and a shield with a Union Jack design. The inscription "ONE PENNY" appears at the bottom, and the year "1901" is present.
