Product Description
This original Queen Victoria One Penny dated 1861 is a genuine Victorian bronze coin, struck during the height of the British Empire. Featuring the iconic “Bun Head” portrait of Queen Victoria designed by Leonard Charles Wyon, the obverse displays the monarch facing left, surrounded by the legend VICTORIA D:G: BRITT: REG: F:D:. The reverse shows the classic seated figure of Britannia holding a trident and shield, symbolising Britain’s naval strength and imperial power.
Minted in London with a total production of over 36 million coins, the 1861 penny was part of the bronze coinage introduced in 1860 to replace earlier copper issues. These coins weigh approximately 9.4 grams and measure around 31 mm in diameter, making them substantial and distinctive pieces of British numismatic history.
Having circulated widely throughout Victorian Britain, surviving examples offer collectors a direct connection to everyday commerce during the 19th century. This example retains clear detail and strong historical appeal, making it an excellent addition to any British coin, Victorian, or historical collection.
