Product Description

An original WW2 USAAF .50 BMG inert cartridge with a 1942-dated SL headstamp, manufactured by the Salt Lake City Ordnance Plant (SL) in Utah, USA.

The Salt Lake City Ordnance Plant was one of the United States' largest wartime ammunition factories, producing millions of .50 Browning cartridges for the Allied war effort. During 1942 these cartridges were supplied extensively to the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF), where the .50 BMG cartridge armed iconic aircraft including the P-51 Mustang, P-47 Thunderbolt, P-38 Lightning, B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Liberator and B-29 Superfortress. The same ammunition was also used in ground vehicles, naval vessels and anti-aircraft roles throughout the Second World War.

This example features the desirable SL 1942 headstamp, identifying manufacture during the early years of America's wartime production programme. It is an excellent collectible for USAAF, .50 BMG, WWII ammunition and military history enthusiasts.
