Product Description

An original WW2 South African .303 British inert cartridge featuring the distinctive U✦ (U Diamond) 1943 headstamp, identifying wartime production by the Kimberley Branch Mint, South Africa.

The .303 British cartridge served as the standard rifle and machine gun calibre of British and Commonwealth forces throughout the Second World War, used extensively in legendary firearms such as the Lee-Enfield rifle, Bren light machine gun, and Vickers machine gun.

The distinctive U Diamond marking is strongly associated with South African Commonwealth wartime ammunition production and is considerably less common than standard British wartime headstamps. Dated 1943, this cartridge was manufactured during the height of Allied wartime operations for Commonwealth military service.

South African-produced .303 ammunition formed an important part of the wider Commonwealth wartime supply network, supporting forces across multiple theatres of war. Collectors particularly value these cartridges for their unusual markings and historical connection to South African military manufacture during WW2.

This example retains authentic wartime appearance with clear headstamp detail and honest age-related patina, making it an excellent collectible for enthusiasts of WW2 Commonwealth militaria, South African military history, or British .303 ammunition collecting.
