Product Description
An original WW2 South African .303 British inert cartridge featuring the U 1942 headstamp, representing wartime Commonwealth ammunition production during the Second World War.
The .303 British cartridge served as the standard rifle and machine gun calibre of British and Commonwealth forces throughout WW2, used extensively in iconic service weapons such as the Lee-Enfield rifle, Bren light machine gun, and Vickers machine gun.
The “U” marking is associated with South African wartime ammunition manufacture and forms part of the Commonwealth production network established to support Allied military operations during the war. Dated 1942, this cartridge was produced during one of the most intensive periods of wartime ammunition manufacture.
Unlike the less common U Diamond (Kimberley) variant, the plain U headstamp is linked to Pretoria branch production within the South African wartime ammunition system.
This example retains authentic wartime appearance with clear headstamp detail and honest age-related patina, making it an excellent collectible for enthusiasts of WW2 Commonwealth militaria, South African military history, or British .303 ammunition collecting.
A strong addition to any inert ammunition collection or historical display.
