Product Description

An original WW2 Canadian .303 British inert cartridge featuring the distinctive DI 1943 Z headstamp, identifying wartime production by Defence Industries Limited, Verdun, Quebec, Canada.

During the Second World War, Canada became one of the major producers of ammunition for Allied and Commonwealth forces, supplying vast quantities of .303 British cartridges for use across multiple theatres of war. Defence Industries Limited was established to rapidly expand wartime ammunition manufacture and became an important contributor to the Allied war effort.

The .303 British cartridge served as the standard rifle and machine gun calibre of British and Commonwealth forces throughout WW2, used extensively in iconic firearms such as the Lee-Enfield rifle, Bren light machine gun, and Vickers machine gun.

The “Z” marking indicates the cartridge was originally loaded with nitrocellulose propellant rather than traditional cordite, reflecting wartime developments in British and Commonwealth ammunition technology.

Dated 1943, this cartridge represents production during the height of Allied wartime operations and retains authentic military appearance with clear headstamp detail and attractive age-related patina.

An excellent collectible for enthusiasts of WW2 Canadian militaria, Commonwealth ammunition, or Lee-Enfield history.
