Product Description

With The Colours: For God, King, and Country – Psalms and Hymns for Soldiers in the Field (1915) is a rare and poignant British Army booklet issued during World War I. Designed for soldiers on the front lines, this compact devotional guide provided spiritual support through carefully selected psalms, hymns, and prayers. Published in 1915, at the height of the Great War, it served as a source of comfort and encouragement for troops enduring the hardships of battle.

The booklet reflects the deeply held connection between faith, duty, and patriotism, reinforcing the belief that soldiers were fighting not only for their country but also for a higher purpose. Its contents include well-known hymns of the era, passages from the Psalms, and prayers intended to uplift and strengthen the hearts of those in combat.

Printed in a pocket-sized format, it was designed for easy carrying, often fitting inside a uniform pocket alongside a soldier’s Bible or personal effects. Today, With The Colours stands as a historical artifact, offering insight into the religious and moral support provided to British troops during World War I, as well as a moving testament to the endurance of faith in times of war.
