Product Description
A very interesting original Stenhouse Equipment Co., Hull Public Service Vehicle First Aid Outfit, supplied in its original black-painted metal carrying case.
The case is fitted with the original red and white FIRST AID sign and retains the manufacturer's Stenhouse Equipment Co. label. The interior retains its original printed “PUBLIC SERVICE VEHICLE FIRST AID OUTFIT” specification label, identifying the equipment supplied with the outfit.
The kit contains a substantial quantity of original period first-aid material, including:
• Sterilised Large Lint Dressing – Standard Dressing No. 9 B.P.C.
• Sterilised Medium Lint Dressing – Standard Dressing No. 8 B.P.C.
• Surgical triangular bandage
• Sterilised cotton wool
• Steroplast rubber bandage
• Additional dressings and bandages
• Original glass bottle marked Sal Volatile – Stimulant for Faintness
• Original Stenhouse instruction/contents label
The manufacturer's specification lists the outfit as containing items including Sal Volatile, antiseptic cream, constrictive rubber bandage, a large sterilised dressing, three medium sterilised wound dressings, sterilised cotton wool, roller bandages, triangular bandages, surgical strapping, scissors and safety pins.
The case itself is an attractive and substantial pressed-metal construction with integral handle, catches and wall/vehicle mounting fittings.
This is a particularly interesting piece of vintage British civilian transport and first-aid equipment, rather than military issue. The combination of the original manufacturer's case, printed specification label and surviving period medical contents makes it an excellent display piece for collectors of British transport history, vintage medical equipment, first-aid equipment and social history.
Condition
Used vintage condition. The metal case shows the expected scratches, rubbing and paint loss associated with age and use. The contents are in varying condition as photographed. The original packaging and labels are particularly good surviving features.
Important: The medical contents are offered as historical/collectable items and should not be regarded as sterile or suitable for medical use.
