Product Description

For Sale: Original WWI British Pharmaceutical Collectible (1914-1918)

This rare and authentic piece of WWI history is a VaselineĀ® "Mark Petroleum Jelly" tin, manufactured by Chesebrough MFG Co., New York, and packed in London, England. Complete with its original contents, this tin is a unique and fascinating relic from the 1914-1918 period. It measures Height: 13 mm, Diameter: 48 mm, and this specific packaging style was exclusively produced during the First World War years. A similar example can be found in the Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums.

During WWI, VaselineĀ® Jelly played a vital role in treating soldiersā€™ wounds, offering relief from cuts, bruises, and sunburns. Medical officers often carried it for treating minor injuries, and its value was so significant that soldiers wrote home asking for more. VaselineĀ® Jelly became a bartering commodity among soldiers and continued to be essential in WWII when sterile, Vaseline-coated gauze saved numerous lives. A New York Times article even highlighted its effectiveness in aiding 75 burn victims to recover safely.

This collectible tin is in good condition, with some surface rust adding to its historical authenticity. It remains sealed, preserving its original charm. This item is ideal for anyone interested in WWI British wartime home front and military pharmaceutical history, and itā€™s perfect for display, reenactments, or collections.

Please review the photos for details, and rest assured, this is a guaranteed original piece from 1914-1918!
