Product Description

Original British military No.9 Mark III Artillery Primer manufactured during the Second World War by Vickers-Armstrong Ltd., Dartford, identified by the wartime manufacturer code VAD and dated 1942.

The primer is headstamped:

No.9 III VAD 1942

together with the British Government Broad Arrow acceptance mark.

No.9 primers were used in British artillery ammunition to initiate the ignition sequence within the cartridge case, transmitting flame to the main propellant charge when struck by the firing mechanism. The perforated tubular construction and threaded base are characteristic features of British artillery primer assemblies of the period.

During the Second World War, Vickers-Armstrong was one of Britain's largest armaments manufacturers, producing tanks, artillery equipment, naval guns, aircraft components and ammunition-related ordnance for the British war effort. To conceal manufacturing locations and contractors, coded markings such as VAD were widely employed on ammunition and ordnance components.

This example remains clearly marked and dated, making it an excellent collector's item for those interested in British artillery, ordnance manufacture, Vickers-Armstrong production and WWII military history.
