Product Description

An original Imperial German 7.7cm Feldkanone 96 n.A. (FK 96 n.A.) fired brass shell case, manufactured during the First World War and dated June 1918.

This genuine German artillery cartridge case was produced during the final year of the Great War for use with the famous 7.7cm Feldkanone 96 neuer Art, the standard field gun of the Imperial German Army. Introduced as an improved version of the earlier FK 96, the FK 96 n.A. became Germany's principal field artillery weapon throughout the conflict, providing direct and indirect fire support on every major front from 1914 until the Armistice in November 1918.

An original Second World War British Craven Plain Cigarettes ration tin, retaining its distinctive olive-brown painted finish, pale blue lettering and small “3 MB” production marking.

Produced for Craven Plain Cigarettes, a brand of Carreras Ltd, this flat rectangular tin is the pattern associated with cigarette supplies issued to British servicemen during the Second World War. Its compact slip-lid design allowed cigarettes and other small personal items to be carried conveniently in a battledress pocket, haversack or webbing small pack.

The lid is marked:

CRAVEN
Plain
CIGARETTES
3 MB

The tin retains both its original lid and lower section. It displays extensive period wear, including scratches, small areas of paint loss, edge rubbing and marks from genuine use. The underside is particularly worn, while the interior remains comparatively clean and retains much of its original plated finish.

These tins are now reproduced for reenactors, making genuine aged examples increasingly important to collectors. This example shows the consistent wear, surface ageing and interior finish expected of an original wartime tin. It would display particularly well as part of a British soldier’s personal kit, small-pack contents display, wartime tobacco collection or Home Front exhibit.

Condition

Good original used condition.

There are numerous scratches and abrasions to the painted exterior, particularly across the lid and underside. The lettering remains clearly legible, the slip lid fits correctly and the tin is structurally sound. There are no major holes or severe corrosion visible.

The wear should be viewed as part of the item’s history rather than damage requiring restoration. I would not clean or repaint it, as doing so would reduce its originality and collector appeal.

Important authenticity note

Modern reproductions of this precise tin are available and copy the original artwork, dimensions, slip lid and 3MB marking. This example is being offered as original based on its construction, genuine age-related wear, internal finish and overall appearance.
