Product Description

The WW1 37mm Hotchkiss Shell Head is a notable piece of military ordnance used during the First World War. Developed by the French arms manufacturer Hotchkiss et Cie, this shell was primarily designed for the 37mm M1916 infantry gun and various types of early anti-aircraft and tank guns. The 37mm caliber was ideal for both direct fire and anti-personnel roles, offering versatility on the battlefield.

The shell head was typically made of steel and housed a small but effective explosive charge, detonated by a percussion fuse upon impact. Its design allowed for significant damage against fortified positions, light vehicles, and even early tanks, which were becoming more prevalent on the Western Front. The 37mm Hotchkiss Shell was also utilized by several Allied forces due to its reliability and effectiveness.

Today, these shell heads are valued by collectors and historians for their historical significance, representing the technological advancements and strategic needs of early 20th-century warfare. Their robust design and battlefield utility highlight the evolution of military ordnance during World War I
