Product Description
An original Victorian/Edwardian J. Hudson & Co "Metropolitan Patent" brass whistle, manufactured at 13 Barr Street, Birmingham, dating from approximately 1890–1910.
This whistle is clearly marked:
METROPOLITAN
PATENT
J. HUDSON & CO.
13 BARR ST.
BIRMINGHAM
The "Metropolitan Patent" pattern became one of the most famous whistle designs produced by J. Hudson & Co and was widely used by police forces, prison warders, railway staff and other authorities throughout Britain and the Empire during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.
Manufactured from solid brass and displaying an attractive aged patina, this example is an excellent piece of British law enforcement and signalling history. The use of the early 13 Barr Street address makes this a desirable collector's piece dating from the company's formative years.
A superb addition to any collection of police memorabilia, Victorian equipment, whistles or British social history.
Condition: Original used condition with attractive age patina and clear markings.
