Product Description
An original U.S. World War II .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) inert cartridge manufactured in 1943 by the Evansville Ordnance Plant (Chrysler Division), Indiana, and featuring the wartime EC 43 military headstamp.
The EC headstamp identifies production at the Evansville Ordnance Plant, operated by the Chrysler Corporation from 1942 to 1944 as part of America's massive wartime ammunition programme. The plant became one of the largest producers of .45 ACP ammunition during the Second World War, manufacturing billions of cartridges for the U.S. armed forces. From 1943 onwards, the factory also pioneered the production of steel-cased .45 ACP ammunition to conserve brass for other critical war industries.
The .45 ACP cartridge was the standard service pistol round of the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy and U.S. Army Air Forces, primarily issued for the iconic Colt M1911A1 pistol and the Thompson and M3 "Grease Gun" submachine guns. The EC 43 headstamp is one of the best-known wartime U.S. military headstamps and is highly sought after by collectors of WWII American ammunition.
