Product Description

An original inert German 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge bearing the fb St 5 1944 headstamp. This is a genuine late Second World War military cartridge manufactured for the Wehrmacht during 1944, when German ammunition production was operating under intense wartime demands.

The fb manufacturer code identifies Mansfeld A.G., Werk Schönebeck/Elbe, Germany. Mansfeld A.G. was an important producer of military small-arms ammunition and cartridge cases for the Wehrmacht. The factory manufactured millions of 9×19mm Parabellum cartridges between 1941 and 1945, producing a variety of ball, iron-core (mE) and special-purpose loads. Collector research documents continuous fb production through 1944, including steel-cased cartridges with production lot numbers extending well into the year.

Headstamp Breakdown

  • fb – Mansfeld A.G., Werk Schönebeck/Elbe, Germany
  • St – Steel cartridge case
  • 5 – Production Lot 5
  • 1944 – Year of manufacture

The St marking denotes a steel cartridge case, introduced to conserve strategic brass supplies. By 1944, virtually all standard German 9mm military ammunition was produced with steel cases to maximise wartime production efficiency.

This cartridge would have been issued for use in Germany's principal 9mm service weapons, including:

  • P08 Luger
  • Walther P38
  • MP38
  • MP40
  • MP41
  • Other German firearms chambered for the 9×19mm Parabellum
