Product Description

An original inert German 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge bearing the dnh St 9 1942 headstamp. This is a genuine Second World War military cartridge manufactured for the Wehrmacht during 1942, when German ammunition production was rapidly expanding to support operations on all fronts.

The dnh manufacturer code identifies Rheinisch-Westfälische Sprengstoff A.G. (RWS), Werk Durlach, near Karlsruhe, Germany. Formerly operated by Gustav Genschow & Co. (GECO), the Durlach factory became one of Germany's leading producers of military ammunition and adopted the dnh code as part of the Wehrmacht's three-letter manufacturer coding system. The factory produced millions of 9mm Parabellum cartridges for German forces throughout the war.

Headstamp Breakdown

  • dnh – Rheinisch-Westfälische Sprengstoff A.G. (RWS), Werk Durlach, Germany
  • St – Steel cartridge case
  • 9 – Production Lot 9
  • 1942 – Year of manufacture

The St marking denotes a steel cartridge case, introduced to reduce the use of strategic brass. By 1942, steel-cased 9mm ammunition had become common throughout German military production, while brass was increasingly reserved for specialist applications.

This cartridge would have been issued for use in many of Germany's principal 9mm service weapons, including:

  • P08 Luger
  • Walther P38
  • MP38
  • MP40
  • Other German firearms chambered for the 9×19mm Parabellum
