Product Description

An original inert German 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge bearing the am St 16 1944 headstamp. This is a genuine late Second World War military cartridge manufactured for the Wehrmacht during 1944, when German ammunition production was operating at maximum capacity.

The am manufacturer code identifies Gustloff-Werke, Otto Eberhardt Patronenfabrik, located at Hirtenberg, Lower Austria (Niederdonau). Following the Anschluss in 1938, the former Hirtenberger Patronen-, Zündhütchen- und Metallwarenfabrik A.G. became part of the Gustloff-Werke armaments group. The factory was one of Germany's largest producers of 9×19mm Parabellum and 7.92×57mm Mauser ammunition and supplied millions of cartridges to the Wehrmacht throughout the war.

Headstamp Breakdown

  • am – Gustloff-Werke, Otto Eberhardt Patronenfabrik, Hirtenberg, Lower Austria
  • St – Steel cartridge case
  • 16 – Production Lot 16
  • 1944 – Year of manufacture

The St marking indicates a steel cartridge case, introduced to conserve strategic brass supplies. By 1944, steel-cased 9mm ammunition had become standard throughout most German wartime production.

This cartridge would have been issued for use in Germany's principal 9mm service weapons, including:

  • P08 Luger

  • Other German firearms chambered for the 9×19mm Parabellum
