Product Description
An original Imperial German 7.7cm Feldkanone 96 n.A. (FK 96 n.A.) fired brass shell case, manufactured during the First World War and dated June 1918.
This genuine German artillery cartridge case was produced during the final year of the Great War for use with the famous 7.7cm Feldkanone 96 neuer Art, the standard field gun of the Imperial German Army. Introduced as an improved version of the earlier FK 96, the FK 96 n.A. became Germany's principal field artillery weapon throughout the conflict, providing direct and indirect fire support on every major front from 1914 until the Armistice in November 1918.
According to its provenance, this shell case was recovered from an old First World War German artillery position, adding an additional layer of historical interest and making it a particularly evocative survivor of the Western Front. While the precise location is unfortunately unknown, the case represents a tangible relic of the German artillery batteries that dominated so much of the fighting during the Great War.
The base is clearly marked:
- St 112
- JUNI 1918
- AWDr 60
- 67% Cu
The June 1918 manufacture date places this case during the final months of the war, produced as Germany prepared for the last major offensives before the Allied Hundred Days Campaign. The 67% Cu marking identifies the wartime brass alloy specification, reflecting the material economies introduced during the later stages of the conflict, while the AWDr 60 inspection mark records German military acceptance during manufacture.
Now preserved as an empty fired case, it retains its original wartime character, displaying honest age-related patina and well-defined arsenal markings that make it an impressive display piece for any military collection.
A superb original item for collectors of Imperial German militaria, First World War artillery, battlefield relics, trench warfare artefacts, and historic ammunition.
