Product Description
An original British WWII 20mm Hispano fired brass cartridge case bearing the desirable K2 1943 20MM headstamp. This is a genuine Second World War aircraft cannon case manufactured during 1943, one of the busiest years of British wartime ammunition production.
The K2 manufacturer's code identifies Kynoch Factory No. 2, located at Standish, Gloucestershire (an ICI/Kynoch wartime factory). This factory was established specifically to support Britain's wartime ammunition programme and produced large quantities of 20×110mm Hispano cartridge cases between 1942 and 1944.
Headstamp Breakdown
- K2 – Kynoch Factory No. 2 (ICI/Kynoch), Standish
- 1943 – Year of manufacture
- 20MM – 20×110mm Hispano aircraft cannon cartridge
Originally loaded as a 20×110mm Hispano round, this case was intended for the famous Hispano Mk II aircraft cannon, one of the RAF's most effective aircraft weapons of the Second World War.
The Hispano cannon armed many of Britain's most famous combat aircraft, including:
- Supermarine Spitfire
- Hawker Hurricane
- Hawker Typhoon
- Hawker Tempest
- De Havilland Mosquito
- Bristol Beaufighter
Firing a powerful 20mm high-explosive or armour-piercing projectile, the Hispano became the RAF's standard aircraft cannon and remained in service well into the post-war years.
This example is an original fired brass case retaining a clear wartime headstamp and would make an excellent addition to any collection of RAF memorabilia, British ordnance or Second World War ammunition.
