Product Description

An original British Army Mk IV brass rifle oil bottle, issued for use with the Lee-Enfield family of service rifles, including the SMLE No.1 Mk III and early No.4 rifles. Designed to fit within the rifle’s butt trap, these oil bottles formed an essential part of the soldier’s cleaning kit, providing lubrication for routine maintenance in service.

This example retains its original brass body, knurled brass screw cap, steel oil applicator/spoon and sealing washer, making it a complete and increasingly difficult-to-find example. The steel applicator shows honest service wear and light surface oxidation consistent with age, while the brass body retains an attractive original patina.

The bottle is of the Mk IV flat-bottom pattern, introduced in the early 20th century and remaining in British military service through both World Wars. No clear military acceptance or manufacturer’s markings are visible on this example, which is not unusual, as many surviving bottles have lightly struck or worn markings after decades of use.

A genuine piece of British military field equipment and an excellent accessory for a Lee-Enfield rifle display, First or Second World War collection, or British Army militaria display.
