Product Description
An original British .303 Mk VII inert cartridge manufactured by Kynoch Ltd. and bearing the desirable K 1927 headstamp.
Founded in Birmingham in the nineteenth century, Kynoch became one of Britain's principal military ammunition manufacturers, supplying the British Armed Forces and numerous Commonwealth nations. During the inter-war years, Kynoch continued to produce high-quality .303 British service ammunition for military contracts and export, with the K 1927 headstamp representing production during the period of modernisation and standardisation following the First World War.
The .303 British Mk VII cartridge had been the standard British service rifle round since 1910. Loaded with a 174-grain spitzer bullet, it was issued for the iconic Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) rifle, later No.4 Lee-Enfield rifles, as well as the Vickers Medium Machine Gun and Bren Light Machine Gun. The Mk VII remained Britain's principal rifle cartridge throughout the Second World War and continued in widespread Commonwealth service for many years.
Pre-war Kynoch dated cartridges such as this 1927 example are increasingly sought after by collectors, representing British military ammunition manufactured during the relatively low-production inter-war period, making them less frequently encountered than wartime examples.
An excellent addition to any collection of British military ammunition, Lee-Enfield rifles, inter-war militaria, or Kynoch headstamps.
