Product Description

A scarce and highly collectible UMC .401 Self Loading Rifle cartridge, an original example of early American self-loading rifle ammunition from the golden age of sporting firearms. Manufactured by Union Metallic Cartridge Company (UMC), this cartridge was produced for rifles chambered in the powerful .401 Winchester Self Loading calibre, most famously the renowned Winchester Model 1910.

Introduced in the early 20th century, the .401 Self Loading cartridge was one of the most powerful rounds developed for commercial semi-automatic rifles of its era. It gained popularity for hunting, sporting use, and security roles, while also seeing limited military and law-enforcement use in several countries. Its combination of power and reliability made it one of the most respected self-loading sporting cartridges of the period.

This example bears the desirable UMC headstamp, highly sought after by collectors of American ammunition, early Winchester rifle calibres, and vintage commercial cartridges. UMC was one of the premier American cartridge makers prior to its merger into Remington, adding further historical appeal.

Professionally inert and intended for display only, this round is ideal for cartridge collections, Winchester rifle displays, study cabinets, or vintage sporting memorabilia. A hard-to-find calibre and an excellent collector piece.
