Product Description
This original inert 7.62mm NATO ball round, dated 1978 and manufactured by FNM (Fábrica Nacional de Munições, Portugal), is a classic example of Cold War–period ammunition used throughout NATO and allied forces. The “FNM 78” headstamp clearly identifies both its year of production and its origin from one of Portugal’s most established ammunition factories, known for supplying reliable military-grade cartridges to several nations.
The 7.62×51 NATO round served as the standard rifle and machine-gun cartridge across much of the Western world during the late 20th century. Ammunition of this type was used in widely deployed weapons such as the FN FAL, G3 rifle, M60, and various general-purpose machine guns. This round has been professionally deactivated to full UK legal standards, retaining its original profile and components while being completely safe for display and handling.
Collectors value FNM-dated ammunition for its strong links to NATO logistics and its distinct manufacturing characteristics. This 1978 example is ideal for cartridge collections, display boards, or pairing with Cold War rifle and LMG setups. Well-preserved and historically relevant, it offers an affordable and authentic addition to any military ammunition collection.
