HORNADY
376 STEYR
headstamp.
The .376 Steyr, also known as 9.5×60mm RB, is a modern large-game rifle cartridge jointly developed by Hornady and Steyr during the late 1990s. It was created for the large-calibre version of the Steyr Scout rifle, associated with firearms writer and Scout Rifle advocate Jeff Cooper.
The cartridge uses a rebated-rim, bottlenecked case derived from the 9.3×64mm Brenneke design and fires a .375-inch diameter projectile. Its purpose was to provide performance approaching traditional African dangerous-game cartridges while remaining short enough to function through the compact Steyr Scout action and magazine.
Hornady produced factory ammunition with both 225-grain and 270-grain soft-point projectiles. Hornady describes its heavy-duty InterLock soft-point loading as intended for demanding large-game rifle use.
This is an unusual calibre rarely encountered in the UK and would make an excellent addition to a collection of modern sporting, big-bore or unusual rifle cartridges.
