Product Description

Original inert .303 British Mk VII cartridge with J 16 headstamp, manufactured in 1916 during the First World War for British military service.

The J factory code is associated with Joseph Johnson & Sons Ltd., Birmingham, a wartime contractor involved in .303 British ammunition component and cartridge manufacture during WW1. The 16 date confirms production during the height of British wartime ammunition demand.

The Mk VII cartridge was the standard .303 British service loading used in the SMLE Lee-Enfield rifle along with Vickers and Lewis machine guns across all major theatres of the Great War.

WW1 dated contractor-made cartridges such as J16 are increasingly sought after by collectors due to the wide variety of wartime manufacturers used by Britain during the ammunition production expansion of 1914–1918.

A genuine inert Great War era display cartridge ideal for Lee-Enfield, trench warfare and British militaria collections.
