Product Description

This is an original .30-40 Krag rifle cartridge — the historic rimmed centre-fire round originally adopted by the U.S. Army in the early 1890s for the Krag–Jørgensen rifle and related firearms. Wikipedia+2Wikipedia+2

The .30-40 Krag was the first smokeless-powder service cartridge for the U.S. military, launching a 220-grain jacketed bullet with 40 grains of powder, giving roughly 2,000 ft/s muzzle velocity in a 30-inch Krag rifle barrel. An Official Journal Of The NRA+1

This particular round has been professionally deactivated (“inert”), with the primer oiled or removed and no propellant or projectile, rendering it completely safe and legal for ownership and display in the UK/EU as a deactivated cartridge. The brass case retains the correct rimmed, bottleneck profile, reflecting the original .30-40 Krag specifications.

As a historical item, it appeals to collectors of antique ammunition, military-rifle enthusiasts, and museums or displays focusing on late-19th to early-20th-century military arms. Whether displayed alone, alongside a Krag rifle reproduction, or as part of a cartridge headstamp collection, this inert .30-40 Krag round offers a tangible connection to a key transitional era of firearm and ammunition development.
