Product Description
The 9mm Luger cartridge case, also known as the 9x19mm Parabellum, is one of the most widely used and versatile handgun cartridges in the world. Here's a description of its key characteristics:
-
Caliber: The 9mm Luger cartridge has a bullet diameter of 9mm, making it a medium-sized handgun cartridge. It is known for its balance of stopping power, manageable recoil, and magazine capacity.
-
Length: The cartridge case typically measures around 19mm in length, hence the designation "9x19mm."
-
Shape: The cartridge case is usually made of brass, although other materials like aluminum or steel can also be used. Brass is preferred due to its excellent properties for reloading. The case is cylindrical with a slightly tapered neck to accommodate the bullet. At the base of the case, there is a rimless design, which allows for smooth feeding and extraction in semi-automatic firearms.
-
Primer: At the base of the cartridge case, there is a small pocket for the primer. The primer is a small, percussion-sensitive component that contains a chemical compound that ignites when struck by the firearm's firing pin. This ignition sets off the powder charge inside the cartridge case, propelling the bullet forward.
-
Powder Charge: Inside the cartridge case, there is a measured amount of gunpowder. The type and amount of powder can vary depending on the specific load and intended use of the cartridge. Generally, 9mm Luger cartridges are loaded with fast-burning powders to achieve consistent velocities and moderate recoil.
-
Bullet: The bullet is seated at the mouth of the cartridge case. It typically weighs between 115 and 147 grains, although other bullet weights are available. The bullet can have various configurations, including full metal jacket (FMJ), hollow point (HP), or other specialized designs for different purposes such as target shooting, self-defense, or hunting.
