Product Description

This official program commemorates the historic event of the Presentation of Colours to the 2nd Battalion The Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders on 15th July 1926 at Albany Barracks, Parkhurst, by HRH The Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll, Colonel-in-Chief. The event marked a significant occasion in the history of the Regiment, celebrating its heritage and military tradition.

The presentation of colours is one of the most important ceremonial duties in a military unit, symbolizing the Regiment's pride, history, and the enduring bond between the soldiers and their leaders. The Princess Louise, as Colonel-in-Chief, was a symbolic and revered figure, lending a sense of royalty and national importance to the ceremony.

The program highlights key figures present at this important event:

  • Colonel of the Regiment: Major General Sir Alexander Wilson, whose leadership and service were integral to the Regiment’s success during his tenure.
  • 2nd Battalion Commander: Lieutenant Colonel C.P. James DSO, a decorated officer whose distinguished career in the Regiment culminated in the leadership of the 2nd Battalion.

The troops on parade included the HQ Wing and ABCD Companies, with their disciplined formations and immaculate uniformity exemplifying the proud tradition of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. The ceremony was conducted with great precision and pageantry, a visual representation of the values of duty, loyalty, and service that the Regiment held dear.

This program is an essential piece of military history, offering a glimpse into the pomp and circumstance of early 20th-century British military life. It provides a detailed record of the personnel, structure, and the grandeur of the ceremony, making it an invaluable item for militaria collectors, military historians, or anyone with an interest in the legacy of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. The presentation of colours marked a proud day in the Regiment’s long and storied history, and this program serves as a testament to the significance of that moment.
