Product Description
An original inert German 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge bearing the am 4 1941 headstamp. This is a genuine Second World War military cartridge manufactured for the Wehrmacht during 1941.
The am manufacturer's code identifies Gustloff-Werke, Otto Eberhardt Patronenfabrik, located at Hirtenberg, Niederdonau (Lower Austria). The factory, formerly Hirtenberger Patronen-, Zündhütchen- und Metallwarenfabrik A.G., came under German control following the Anschluss in 1938 and became a major producer of military ammunition for the German armed forces.
Headstamp Breakdown
- am – Gustloff-Werke, Otto Eberhardt Patronenfabrik, Hirtenberg, Austria
- 4 – Production Lot 4
- 1941 – Year of manufacture
Produced in 1941, this cartridge would have been issued for use in many of Germany's standard 9mm service weapons, including:
- P08 Luger
- Walther P38
- MP38
- MP40
- Other German weapons chambered for the 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge
By 1941, Germany had adopted the three-letter manufacturer code system to conceal the identity of its military contractors. The am code remained in use throughout the war and is well recognised by cartridge collectors.
