Product Description
Original Inert German 7.92×57mm Mauser Rifle Cartridge
An original inert German 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge manufactured in 1938, during the final year before the outbreak of the Second World War.
This cartridge features the early P headstamp used by Polte Armaturen- und Maschinenfabrik A.G., Magdeburg, Germany's principal military cartridge manufacturer during the inter-war period. Before the widespread introduction of numbered P-codes and later three-letter factory codes, Polte used the simple "P" manufacturer mark on military ammunition.
Headstamp Details
- Manufacturer: Polte Armaturen- und Maschinenfabrik A.G., Magdeburg
- Headstamp: P
- Year of Manufacture: 1938
- Lot Number: 09
- Case Material: S – Brass case manufactured from the standard 67% copper alloy.
Produced during Germany's rapid military expansion, this brass-cased cartridge predates the widespread adoption of steel cases that became common from 1939 onwards. It would have been issued for use in standard German service weapons including the Karabiner 98k, Gewehr 98, and early MG34 machine guns.
Early brass P headstamp cartridges are increasingly sought after by collectors due to their association with Germany's pre-war rearmament programme and their distinctive headstamp style.
