Product Description
An original British .303 Mk VII inert cartridge bearing the GB 1936 headstamp, manufactured in 1936 by Greenwood & Batley Ltd., Leeds, England.
Greenwood & Batley was one of Britain's best-known engineering and armaments manufacturers, producing .303 British service ammunition under government contract during the inter-war period and throughout the Second World War. Ammunition dated 1936 was manufactured during Britain's rearmament programme as military production increased in response to the growing threat in Europe.
The .303 British Mk VII cartridge had been the standard British service rifle round since its adoption in 1910. Loaded with a 174-grain spitzer bullet, it served in the legendary Lee-Enfield rifle, Bren Light Machine Gun, Vickers Machine Gun, and numerous other Commonwealth firearms. The Mk VII remained Britain's principal rifle cartridge throughout the Second World War and continued in military service for many years afterwards.
This GB 1936 example represents an excellent pre-war British military cartridge and is highly desirable amongst collectors of British militaria, Lee-Enfield rifles, and Commonwealth ammunition.
A superb addition to any collection of British military ammunition, pre-WWII militaria, Lee-Enfield rifles, or .303 British headstamps.
