The "Army Badges" cigarette card set by Gallaher Ltd, issued in 1939, is a remarkable collection that honors the distinctive regimental badges of the British Army. Comprising 48 cards, this set features intricate illustrations of badges from various regiments, each card carefully designed to reflect the unique insignia, mottoes, and traditions that define these historic military units. Released as tensions in Europe escalated before WWII, this collection served to bolster public awareness and appreciation of Britain’s armed forces.
Each card includes detailed artwork of a badge alongside a short description that provides insight into the regiment’s background, symbols, and heritage. The "Army Badges" series celebrates the long-standing traditions, values, and courage of the British Army, highlighting the importance of unity and identity within each regiment. Collecting these cards was both an engaging hobby and a means to support national pride during uncertain times. For collectors and history buffs today, Gallaher’s "Army Badges" series is prized not only for its aesthetic detail but also for its historical significance, offering a fascinating glimpse into British military history just before the outbreak of WWII. This complete set remains a valuable piece of wartime memorabilia and British heritage
